Russia may become one of the top five world economies in terms of purchasing power parity as early as this year. This statement was made by Maksim Oreshkin, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, at the All-Russian Youth Educational Forum "Territory of Senses".

He stressed that the country has never given up the goal of becoming one of the world's top 5 economies, moreover, Russia has practically achieved this goal.

"If you open the International Monetary Fund's latest forecast for this year, you will see that this year Russia will be the world's fifth economy, will rise to this level," Oreshkin said, adding that now we need to focus on maintaining this position.

Going forward, he said, the country will face the task of performing and achieving stable economic growth above the global average in order to remain in that group of leaders.

According to the presidential aide, such results have been achieved also due to the consequences of the pandemic.

"In many respects this goal, oddly enough, was helped by the crisis, and we achieved this goal two years earlier," he said and added that in this regard, the goal to be in the top five was excluded from the presidential decree.

"Russia did not give up on it (the goal)," Oreshkin concluded.
