Russian students won 6 medals at the European Geography Olympiad

Pupils from Russian schools won six silver medals at the EGEO-2020 European Geography Olympiad, which was held online in the last days of August.

The event was organized by Serbia.

A total of 15 countries were represented in the geographical contest. There were two age groups: first group consisted of students aged 12-15 years old, and the second group consisted of students aged 16-19 years old.

There were 3 competitors from one country in each age category.

Russian team was headed by the teachers of the Geography Department of Moscow State University Anna Romashina and Nikita Mozgunov.

Russian school students were winners: in the older group the silver medalists were Elena Agapova, Konstantin Astakhov and Dmitry Fomin, and in the younger group Pavel Zhukov, Jan Nekrashevich and Andrey Okhlopkov.

This year the Olympiad was held remotely for the first time ever. The Russian team, for example, performed the tasks while being in the International Children's Center near Tver. The competition included written and practical parts and multimedia tests.

The Olympiad has been taking place for five years under the name of EGEO, earlier it was called Balkan Geography Olympiad for a long time.
