Russia increased agribusiness exports to the US by 16%

Russia has turned from a wheat importer into the largest exporter of this crop due to the use of new technologies in the agro-industrial complex (AIC), said Sonny Perdue, head of the US Department of Agriculture.

Moreover, shipments of agribusiness products from Russia to the U.S. in the first six months of this year reached $540 million, 16% higher than last year and 50% higher than in 2017. Fish and seafood accounted for most of the exports ($430 million).

Perdue described agricultural and food trade between the two states as extremely limited compared to, for example, Britain, the European Union or Southeast Asia.

The secretary also commented on US President Donald Trump's plans to expand trade and commercial ties with Russia, despite the dramatic cooling in the political relationship between the two countries. He said he did not receive any instructions from the president in this respect.
