The Mir training sailing ship will sail around the world in 2022-2023 on the occasion of the World Sea Day and the 78th anniversary of Victory Day.

The organization of the voyage was discussed at a meeting with the head of Rosmorrechflot Alexander Poshyay.

In 2 years, our country will preside over the World Sea Day. This holiday is aimed at attracting attention of the international community to the damage caused by human activity to the seas and oceans. Also on this event decides how to improve the environmental safety of shipping, prevent marine pollution, including oil, preserve aquatic bioresources and combat poaching.

In preparation for Russia's presidency of the event, a round-the-world voyage on one of the Mir training sailing vessels has been proposed. It is planned that part of the voyage will pass through the Northern Sea Route, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans with a call in the Antarctic zone. In general, the length of the route will exceed 34 thousand nautical miles.

As Poshivay noted, the main condition for such sea voyage will be unconditional safety and health protection of the voyage participants.
