Exhibitions may lose over 100 billion rubles due to the pandemic

The Russian exhibition industry may lose more than a hundred billion rubles this year due to current restrictions on the organization of events in connection with the pandemic. This opinion was expressed by Sergey Bednov, the Head of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for exhibition and congress activities, Director General of Expocentre.

The total losses of this sphere, according to his data, due to the impossibility to hold events in 2020 may amount to about 100 billion rubles. Losses of the total amount will amount to about 68%, he added with reference to expert calculations.

In this regard, he pointed to the need for government support, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, both at the federal and regional levels.

Bednov emphasized that exhibitions for such companies serve as the main channels for business development, promotion of their goods and services not only in Russia, but also on foreign markets.

Pandemia, in his opinion, pointed out that the exhibition sphere needs development of standards, strengthening of the role of industry associations, structuring of state support and improvement of the system of codes assignment for OKVED (All-Russian Classifier of Economic Activities)
