The number of voyages on the Volga-Baltic Waterway in 2020 decreased by 15% to 16.5 thousand voyages compared to last year's figures. In 2019, there were 19.4 thousand voyages on this route.

In addition, freight traffic decreased by 8.1% to 14.6 million tonnes of cargo against 15.9 million tonnes of cargo a year earlier. These data were reported by Alexei Sidorov, Head of Traffic Control Service of the Volga-Baltic basin Administration of Inland Waterways.

Despite these statistics, in 2020 transportations of metals and construction materials remained at the same level.

A more significant drop was recorded in passenger traffic. Thus, during the navigation this year there were about 800 trips on this route with over 80 thousand passengers. A year ago this indicator exceeded two thousand trips and 350 thousand passengers.
