Russia has topped the list of leading national metrology systems in the world in terms of the number of measurement and calibration capabilities recognised by the countries of the Metrology Convention, according to the website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

For six years the country was second after the USA, and now for the first time it has become the leader in this indicator.

The International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) has confirmed that Russian metrologists were able to increase the number of comparisons and increase the range of measurements of physical quantities in most fields of science and technology, including the area of critical technologies.

The deputy head of the agency Alexei Besprozvannykh stated that often the accuracy and technical parameters of Russian measurement standards and measuring equipment not only correspond to the foreign counterparts, but also exceed them.

At present more than a hundred countries are parties to the Metric Convention, which provide 98% of the world gross product. The countries with most measuring and calibration facilities at the end of December this year are Russia (1792 units), USA (1696 units) and China (1678 units).
