Rostec United Engine Corporation will create a digital twin of a new-generation marine gas turbine engine for ships with a displacement of up to 12 thousand tons.

According to the website of the state corporation, it will make it possible to manage the life cycle of the power plant and increase the reliability and commercial appeal of domestic marine engines.

The digital twin is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

The digital twin is a mathematical model with a full set of interrelated information about the product. With its help it is possible to predict the behavior of design elements at any stage of creation and operation.

Digitalisation makes it possible to reduce the time and cost of power plant design, such as the new generation of offshore gas turbine engines. It also makes it possible to achieve design characteristics, minimize the cost of creating prototypes, testing and refinement of engines, said Yuri Shmotin, Deputy Director General of the company.

High-precision mathematical models of the engine and gearbox assemblies for the base 20.2MW marine engine, the 25MW advanced marine engine and the RO55 gearbox will be developed during the scientific and research work.
