Russia exported a record amount of food in 2020
Russia became a record-breaker in terms of food supplies abroad last year.
Thus, in 2020, 79 tons of agricultural products worth $30.7 billion were exported from the Russian Federation, which is 20% higher than in 2019. RBC writes about it, citing the federal center "Agroexport" of the Ministry of Agriculture.
For the first time in post-Soviet history, Russia earned more from the sale of agro-industrial products to other countries than it spent on imports.
According to Agroexport, 150 countries bought food from Russia. China remains the largest importer, accounting for 13% of all deliveries. Turkey and Kazakhstan ranked second and third, respectively.
The Agriculture Ministry attributes these record numbers to the good growth of the industry as a whole and the desire of many countries to increase their own reserves in light of the pandemic.
