German company intends to invest in construction of Astrakhan port

The General Director of the German logistics company Martrade Holding stated that the enterprise is ready to become a strategic partner in the investment project on construction of modern container and other terminals in the port special economic zone (SEZ) in the Astrakhan region, the website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade informs.

The initiator and the main investor of the project is PLC Caspiy.

The port complex will occupy 295 hectares. Total investments will exceed 27 billion rubles. Its opening will allow to create additional 800 working places. Cargo turnover by 2031 will be 8 million tonnes.

As the Governor of the Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin said the region has great transit potential, and the new port economic zone and special economic zone "Lotos" together form a powerful Caspian cluster, which should become a driver for economic development and international cooperation. However, at the same time it is necessary to expand cargo flows and create infrastructure.

To date the preliminary work has been done and the regulatory framework has been prepared. Participants of the process are now ready to proceed to practical implementation.

During the meeting of the head of the region with representatives of the German company a memorandum of understanding was signed, which provides for cooperation in operating the terminals of the new port, as well as in organizing and implementing international logistics services.

The first stage of the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2023. Under this project, the existing berths will be developed and four terminals with a capacity of 3.3 million tonnes will be put into operation.

The second stage is scheduled to be completed in 2026, at which time the new port will be built near the Zaburunny Ilmen.
