Maxim Oreshkin: "Russia has a very correct macroeconomic structure"

The Russian economy overcame the coronavirus crisis with a good result. According to Maxim Oreshkin, assistant to the Russian President, this proves that the country has managed to create a competent macroeconomic structure.

"In Russia - my opinion - there is a very correct macroeconomic structure with an independent Central Bank, with the budget rule set by the government. This structure, of course, does not need to be changed," Oreshkin said, speaking today at one of the sessions of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

At the same time, he noted the flexibility of the system, which was able to successfully overcome the challenges posed to the global community by the pandemic.

"We can see from last year that our economic policy is responsive. We also had a large budget deficit, which is good that this year is seriously reduced, and the government has actively entered, and it helped the Russian economy to overcome the crisis with very good results, too," Oreshkin said.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is taking place on June 2-5. This year the theme is "Together Again. Economy of the New Reality". The event is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
