Media: Russian exporters predict problems around the world

Russian companies may face problems all over the world. Such conclusions were reached by Ernst&Young experts after analyzing the decarbonization trend.

As "Vedomosti" write, analysts have estimated the introduction of a carbon tax, which will be levied on imported goods, in 15 billion euros by 2030. Against the backdrop of recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, this could be a particularly heavy blow for Russia, the experts noted.

According to their estimates, Brussels is going for it because of the shortage of fossil energy sources in order to equalize the cost of expensive renewable energy sources and traditionally cheaper fossil fuels.

However, such actions undermine healthy competition and have an extremely negative impact on Russian exports.

Recall that Russia is now the largest supplier of carbon-intensive goods to Europe. In 2023 a carbon tax may come into force, which will be taxed on goods imported into the European Union, the production of which does not meet European environmental standards. At the first stage it may concern iron, steel, cement and fertilizers.

The Financial Times business daily recognized Russian companies as the main potential victims of the border carbon tax.

Russian experts do not deny the importance of modernization of the industrial sector, but they point out that ecology is used to drive unwanted competitors out of the market. Russia is considered to be the undesirable country.
