From January 1, 2024, the Ministry of Nature has proposed to limit the sale of foreign goods in the Russian Federation in case the data on them have not been previously recorded in the state system of waste management. This was reported by the Izvestia newspaper with reference to the relevant draft law.

Establishment of such a system is another innovation in the trash reform, which is taking place in the country. Companies and customs authorities are to provide data to the register.

Information resource, as the newspaper notes, will accumulate a wide array of data on the market. For example, there will be a list of manufacturers, importers, a list of recycling companies and a separate register of goods and packaging.

The system will study this information automatically, which will allow, among other things, charging companies for eco-fees.
