Russia-EU trade increased by 12.5% year-on-year

The trade turnover between Russia and the European Union increased significantly in 2021. In the first four months of this year, it amounted to 70.3 billion euros.

According to RIA Novosti, the current figure is 12.5% higher than in the same period in 2020. Only the U.S. with 71.4 billion and China with 139.4 billion is ahead of Russia in terms of trade turnover.

Products of the fuel and energy complex account for the highest share in Russia's exports. According to Mark Goikhman, chief economist of the TeleTrade Information and Analysis Center, natural gas supplies have increased significantly due to the abnormally cold and prolonged winter in Europe. "According to Gazprom, in three months at once by 30.7% year-on-year," he said.

Germany is actively buying mineral fuel, timber, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and products, he said.

Equipment, including medical, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cosmetics and detergents are mostly imported into Russia. All are of a high degree of processing.

The main sales market for Europe is the United States: 125.4 billion Euro worth of goods were exported there, followed by Great Britain - 88 billion, China - about 74 billion. Russia has 27.8 billion (plus 7.3%).
