Schoolchildren from Russia won gold at the international computer science Olympiad

Young programmers from Russia won three gold and one silver medal at the 33rd International Olympiad in Informatics IOI 2021 (International Olympiad in Informatics) in Singapore. Competitions were held in a distance format, the venue for the Russian team was the educational center "Sirius", the Ministry of Education said.

"Victories of Russian students at the Olympiad in Informatics is a reason to be proud of the children, their teachers and parents, coaches and mentors. This is the result of great common work and an indicator of development of our education system. Regular successes at the international Olympiads are an indicator of systemic quality, behind which there is a lot of work to reveal the talents in each student," said the head of the Ministry, Sergey Kravtsov.

Mikhail Budnikov from Chelyabinsk, Yegor Lifar and Timofey Fedoseyev from Moscow won gold and Danila Usachev from Samara got silver. Head of the national team of Russia was associate professor of the ITMO faculty of information technology and programming Andrey Stankevich, deputy director of the Center for IT education development of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) Alexey Maleev.

The team was formed from students who performed well at the All-Russian Olympiad for Informatics among schoolchildren. The contenders underwent in-depth training at the training camp on the basis of MIPT.

This year, the 33rd International Olympiad in Informatics IOI was attended by a record number of schoolchildren - 351 participants from 88 countries.
