Japan is interested in purchasing wood pellets from Sakhalin Oblast

The Japanese company Kondo Shoten is interested in purchasing wood pellets from Sakhalin producers, the Ministry of Economic Development of Sakhalin Oblast reported.

Earlier, a meeting was held at the regional government between Vladimir Kornev, head of the regional Forestry and Hunting Agency, and Takehiko Kondo, chairman of the Kondo Shoten Board of Directors. The meeting was attended by representatives of business, the Sakhalin Oblast Development Corporation, the Far East Development Corporation, and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

"During the dialogue, the head of the Japanese company informed about the interest in purchasing wood pellets in the Sakhalin region. Today fuel pellets are purchased in Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia. Takehiko Kondo stressed that his priority is not only the purchase of goods but also long-term cooperation with Sakhalin companies. Japanese investments in the production of pellets are also possible," - says the department.

According to Vladimir Kornev, Sakhalin Region is also interested in cooperation with Japan, especially in the sphere of deep wood processing.

Businessman Takehiko Kondo plans to hold a series of separate meetings with business representatives to discuss in detail possible cooperation and visit Sakhalin Oblast again in the near future, the ministry added.
