The Russian government has approved grants for universities and organizations to support the work of research centers in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), funding the program from 2021 to 2023 is estimated at 4.1 billion rubles, according to the official website of the Cabinet.
"The centers are expected to contribute to the development of the sector: engage in research and development, participate in the preparation and implementation of advanced educational programs," the report explains.
According to the document, universities and organizations may use the funds to cover the cost of staff of the center, the purchase of software, equipment and accessories, participation in international scientific conferences, purchase of services necessary for the functioning of the center.
The amount of the grant for one organization shall not exceed 150.4 million rubles in 2021, and no more than 250.6 million rubles for subsequent years. It is planned to support at least six research centres until 2024.
The authorities believe that the adopted decision "will stimulate the development of AI technologies and their implementation in various industries, will be another incentive for the accelerated digitalization of the Russian economy. It is specified that a special working group consisting of AI experts and representatives of state bodies will select the recipients. The Ministry of Economic Development will take care of its formation. The Analytical Center of the Government will be the operator of the subsidy.
