The Mexican pharmaceutical company Birmex, together with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), announced the launch of production of a test batch of a Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus in this American country.

According to RDIF, Mexico became the first North American state to register Sputnik V and start producing the domestic drug. The vaccine produced in Mexico will be used to immunize the local population.

"The production of the test batch is an important step in the technology transfer process, we expect it to fully meet the most stringent requirements. "Sputnik V has been successfully used in Mexico for several months and has demonstrated excellent safety and efficacy," said Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of RDIF.

The Russian drug Sputnik V has already been registered in 67 countries. Data from regulators in various countries including Mexico, Argentina, Serbia, Hungary and the UAE show that the domestic vaccine is one of the safest and most effective against the disease.
