Rostec and Artemy Lebedev Studio will create innovative traffic lights

Shvabe Holding of Rostec State Corporation and Artemy Lebedev Studio have developed a new concept of a traffic light with a single screen. The novelty was presented at the international industrial exhibition Innoprom-2021 in Yekaterinburg.

"When designing the device, it was decided to abandon the traditional three-section scheme and use a single screen in different form factors, which will display all the necessary information. The vertical form-screen will be designed for highways, its smaller pedestrian copy, as well as the square version is designed for city streets," Rostec said.

In addition to the usual signals and symbols, the new traffic light broadcasts animated content. The device shows the characteristics of the road situation, probable maneuvers, and if necessary, turns into an interactive road sign. The functionality of the traffic light can be complemented by a separate power supply and control unit which allows you to connect additional modules to the light. In particular, it is possible to install noise monitoring sensors, carbon dioxide content, Wi-Fi transmitters.

"This project is our vision of how traffic lights will change with the development of LED technology and road infrastructure in the next five years. Testing and implementation of this development will be possible after a number of changes in the State Standard for road signs. Despite the rather long planning horizon, we are confident that the development will go beyond the conceptual version, reformat the industry and set new standards," said Sergey Dmitrochenko, Deputy CEO of Shvabe.

Specialists of Artemy Lebedev Studio have developed the graphic content and visual communication system of the traffic light. "This project is an important step towards our long-standing dream," stressed founder Artemy Lebedev.
