Cafes and restaurants after the cancellation of QR codes will see a boom in attendance - expert

The Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers (FR&H) assessed positively the cancellation of the QR-code system, now establishments can expect a boom of visits. Igor Bukharov, the head of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers, expressed this opinion in a conversation with the Made in Russia project.

On Friday it became known that in Moscow and Moscow region on Monday will be canceled the system of mandatory QR-codes, while retaining the "special requirements for the provision of services. In addition, night establishments will again be able to work at night, the work of food courts will be resumed and children's playrooms will be opened.

"Judging from last year, there will probably be a certain boom, but this boom has to be monitored because no one has abolished social distance, masks and sanitizers. We'll have to keep an eye on that," the FR&E head pointed out.

Bukharov has told that at the meeting with representatives of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called the introduction of QR codes an unpopular measure and noted that with reduced incidence rate and increased rate of vaccination, it will be canceled.

"This is a decision that we have been waiting for, because at a meeting with Sobyanin 3.5 weeks ago we discussed that in case of an increase in morbidity and reduction in the number of beds we would have to introduce a lockdown. Sobyanin said then, that introduction of QR codes is an unpopular measure and in case of morbidity decrease and increase in the rate of vaccination, it will be cancelled", - claimed Bukharov.

He stressed that despite the cancellation of the QR code system, the requirement to use personal protective equipment and to vaccinate 60% of the personnel is still in force.

"We are the most advanced in vaccination and today we have almost reached 60%. We understand that the rate will increase. I believe they cannot be reduced because there could be a new wave in the fall. Our task is to contain it, "- said the head of the federation.

Bukharov also commented on the decision to leave on discretion of the owners of the institutions to check the presence of QR codes by the visitors. "As this question is related to how we will meet the new wave and whether we have time to get vaccinated, I suggest all the already vaccinated citizens to get QR codes in this situation, as no one knows how the situation will develop in autumn", - he explained.

Speaking about the losses, according to Bukharov, it's likely to be possible in a month at the earliest. "This is a very complicated issue. We will count in a month or by the end of the summer, because deferred demand is not excluded, probably, someone will be able to negotiate with their landlords and suppliers," concluded the head of FR&O.
