Russian chain Magnit has decided to abandon the idea of scaling a chain of alcohol stores. The company has been testing this format since 2019 in several stores, which will soon be converted into traditional supermarkets, writesKommersant.
Earlier, a similar decision was taken in X5 Group. According to the newspaper, the largest retailers failed to compete with the major players in the alcohol segment - "Red & White" and "Winlab".
The first pilot store "Magnit Evening" with alcohol products started to work in Samara in 2019. In total, about 2.5 thousand items of goods were presented here. At the moment there are three such facilities in operation, but all of them will be converted into "at home" or "Magnit cosmetic" stores.
According to a representative of the retailer, the company has been testing the trading equipment, formats, navigation and shelves design. The most effective solutions now, he said, are used in the alcohol departments of large format stores.
