Authorities want to increase popularity of cloud gaming in Russia

The Russian government plans to increase exports of domestic cloud gaming services by 55 times: from $2.9 million in 2020 to $160 million in 2030, Kommersant reports, referring to the roadmap of the New Communication Internet Technologies project.

According to the authorities' plans, domestic sales should grow at the same pace: from 0.8 billion rubles in 2020 to 44.3 billion rubles in 2030. At the same time, the audience of cloud gaming platforms in Russia should increase from 180 thousand to 10 million people.

To achieve such indicators, the government plans to support working companies with grants through the Innovations Promotion Fund.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko's office explained to the publication that the popularity of gaming in the country is growing by almost 6% annually, and the pandemic and the mass transition to "remote" only contributed to the growth. In addition, the country is rolling out 5G network, which will minimize delays in the transmission of information. As a result, the apparatus believes, people will be able to play "heavy" games from mobile devices at any time and in any place. According to the authorities, the potential of Russian games is underestimated in the global market - which is why there are plans to introduce grant support and preferential lending.
