Moscow region plans to become a leader in berry production

The Moscow region intends to become Russia's leader in berry production in the next two years. This was announced by the head of the region Andrey Vorobiev.

"We have very good results for berry production. More and more berry projects are being implemented in the Moscow region. In the next 2 years we will be leaders in the production of berries in the country", - the press service of the governor and the government of the region quotes him.

He has explained that by 2023 eight major investment projects should be realized in the region. In particular, at the "Silver Gardens" enterprise in Serebryanye Prudy, it is planned to collect about 100 tons of berries annually. Production facilities will also be implemented in Kashira, Voskresensk, Elektrostal, Ramenskoye and Shakhovskaya. There it is planned to grow strawberries, blueberries, currants and raspberries. It is expected to provide the production of another 9.4 thousand tons of berries.

Earlier Roman Yesaulov, the Deputy Director General of "Essen Production", said that it is rather problematic to find a sufficient amount of berries in Russia. According to Esaulov, the company, which is now the largest producer of jams in Russia, almost all raw materials are bought abroad.

It is worth mentioning that in July the experts of the Plekhanov Russian Economic University published a new study, according to which the import substitution programme has worked worst for fruit and berry products - only 11% of the line-up has been substituted.
