Russia's largest gamma treatment center for materials has opened in the Chelyabinsk Region. This was reported by Atom-TOR's press service.

It is expected that creation of the center will make it possible to expand the range of services, including modification of properties of polymers and structural materials such as rubber and concrete, phytosanitary treatment of agricultural products, development of irradiation instructions, sterility tests, and many others.

Highly qualified industry personnel were involved in the establishment of the centre. The industrial gamma unit RTU-3000 equipped with cobalt-60 sources developed by the Research Institute of Technical Physics and Automation of Rosatom State Corporation was installed there.

The enterprise has already signed cooperation agreements with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and Ozersky Technical College, including accepting students for practical training.

The first customers are manufacturers of surgical kits and medical personal protective equipment and spices.
