A fact of GMO corn cultivation has been revealed in Ryazan Region. This was reported by the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor.

"The Rosselkhoznadzor Department for Ryazan and Tambov regions in the course of an unscheduled inspection of LLC "Malinishchi" (Ryazan region, Pronsky district) and subsequent laboratory tests revealed the fact of growing GMO maize," - said in the message.

It was intended as animal feed. It was established that the enterprise used seeds purchased in 2019-2020 from companies from Rostov-on-Don, Moscow and Voronezh region. The Rosselkhoznadzor is investigating this fact.

The Rosselkhoznadzor reminded that for the first time GMO plants in Russia were detected by the agency in 2020. GM sequences were detected in rapeseed grown in the Nizhny Novgorod region, soybeans in the Volgograd region

"However, the facts described above confirm that a number of producers violate this ban and use seeds of untested safety," the service stated.

It should be reminded that the current legislation prohibits growing plants in Russia, whose genetic program has been changed using genetic engineering methods.
