In the first half of 2021, Russia and Syria increased their trade turnover by 3.5 times. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this at a meeting with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
"Our joint efforts are also bringing some results. I'm talking now not only about humanitarian aid from Russia to the Syrian people, I'm also talking about the development of trade and economic ties. In the first half of this year, the volume of trade has increased 3.5 times," Putin said.
The president also noted that the countries are also working together to solve "the main problem facing the entire humanity today" - the pandemic. He pointed out that the first deliveries of Sputnik V and Sputnik Lite have already been shipped to Syria.
"I hope that our joint efforts will help the Syrian people to get back on their feet in all senses of the word, help restore the economy, the social sphere, the health sector, first of all, for today," he concluded.
