Krasnodar region agrarians have bred a new variety of peanut - "Otradokubansky", said Deputy Governor of the region Andrey Korobka.

"In the Gulkevichsky district - there is the first experience of growing peanuts. So far it is a small area - about 10 hectares, on which the scientific institute is engaged in breeding this culture. We have even brought out a domestic variety Otradokubansky, which is highly oleaginous and productive and is intended for cultivation in the south," Korobka told TASS in an interview.

According to the deputy governor, there is a demand for peanut production in industrial volumes, as it is widely used in food not only in its pure form, but also in the form of oil and paste.

Now the agrarians are growing it in the experimental mode. In the future it will become clear how the new variety takes root and whether this direction will have the necessary effect on the economy, he added.
