Kamchatka fishing companies have produced a record number of salmon this year - 265 thousand tons more than last year, said the press service of the regional government.

"This year's Putin proved to be a success. Fishermen showed the second record result in the history of observation: crossed the bar of 440 thousand tons in all types of fisheries," the report said with reference to the Minister of Fisheries of the region Andrei Zdetovetsky.

Industrial fishing amounted to 435 thousand tons. Initial forecasts of the sector's science were 360 thousand tons. The head of the Department called the result of this year "very good", despite transportation and logistics constraints.

Last year fishermen caught about 175 thousand tons of salmon in Kamchatka, which was the worst result in the past 10 years.

This year almost 100 companies have been involved in fishing.
