FAS calls on Pyaterochka and Magnit to stop unreasonable overpricing in the Moscow region

The Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS) in Moscow Region has recorded overpricing of retail prices in stores of Magnit and Pyaterochka retail chains for the same food products depending on the share occupied by each retail chain within the boundaries of different urban districts.

According to the press service of the regional FAS, "Tander" (retail chain "Magnit") and "Agrotorg" (retail chain "Pyaterochka"), "occupying a dominant position in several urban districts of the region, set higher prices for food than in other municipalities in some municipalities. Thus, the cost of wheat flour, bread, chicken and pork was more than 10% higher than the established in urban districts, in which there were no signs of a dominant position.

"The Moscow Regional FAS Administration of Russia issued warnings to Agrotorg and Tander to stop unreasonable overpricing of retail prices. The deadline for execution of the warnings is 10 days from receipt. Otherwise, the FAS will institute proceedings for violation of antimonopoly law for abuse of dominant position," the department said.

Earlier, the territorial department of the FAS in the Ryazan Region initiated an antitrust case against Magnit and Pyatyorochka retail chains due to high markups on potatoes, onions, cabbage and carrots. In a number of shops the markup reached 100%.
