Marketplace Ozon is discussing the possibility of launching its own online movie theater, Kommersant has learned.

According to the newspaper's source, Ozon representatives have consulted with ivi, Megogo and video service Viasat on the matter. The company is considering either buying ready-made platforms or buying white label technology from other video services, in which case the partner will provide technical support for the video service, but it will be presented as an Ozon product.

Kirill Filippov, SPB TV, General Director of Video Platform Solutions, believes that the partnership model is a less expensive and faster way for Ozon to enter the online cinema market. He estimates that launching a video service from scratch could cost the company up to $100 million, and the payback period of the project, given the abundance of online movie theaters, could be 50-75 years.

According to the expert, the selection of independent products on the Russian video services market is limited. However, if the company decides to make a white label, Ozon will have to do its best to promote its service and become highly competitive, as other ecosystems already have online movie theatres connected to e-commerce, as well as taxi and other services.
