The export of sausage products from Russia since the beginning of this year has increased by 33%, to 33.1 thousand tons, compared to 2020. A significant role in this was played by the emergence of new importers: we are talking about West African countries - Benin, Liberia and Ghana, according to the website of Rosselkhozbank.

Russian producers have strengthened their presence in the markets of post-Soviet countries and mastered new directions.
"West African countries Benin, Liberia and Ghana emerged among importers, while exports to the Far East and Southeast Asia grew almost fivefold in volume terms," the report says.

Bank experts explained growth of supplies to Africa and Asia by a general diversification strategy of Russian companies. The sausage export volume may exceed 55 thousand tons by the end of the year.

According to Andrey Dalnov, head of Rosselkhozbank industry expertise center, entering the markets of Eastern and South-East Asia, entering Africa speaks about the development of deep processing, because the taste preferences in these regions are very different from the post-Soviet ones. And to compete successfully in these markets, domestic enterprises have to master new production technologies and recipes.

"This is the challenge, but our outlook is positive. In the case of West Africa, we see that sausage producers believe in them, as do fish producers, who have also discovered this area for themselves in 2021," he said.

In the center of industry expertise, the main challenge in the long term for domestic sausage suppliers called holding and building a position in the post-Soviet countries. Experts explain this by the fact that these countries will remain the main consumers. However, it is also necessary to continue to diversify by opening the markets of new countries and increase sales.
