Yandex robots will start delivering food to another US university campus

Russian IT company Yandex, together with US food delivery service Grubhub, will launch drone delivery on the campus of Arizona University.

Previously, a similar robotic delivery service was launched at Ohio State University.

"More than 35,000 campus residents will be able to order food delivered by rovers through the Grubhub app. The rovers operate seven days a week and can bring food from local cafes and restaurants to popular campus locations, such as dorms, the main library and the Weaver Library," the Russian company said in a statement.

Yandex's robots move independently along the campus' sidewalks, pedestrian zones and crosswalks at 5-8 kilometers per hour. They can deliver orders not only in the daytime, but also in the dark, rain and heat.

The campus of the University of Arizona will be the first in the U.S. where the new generation of Yandex robots will start working. They have a more functional design, greater capacity, improved performance and a battery that will only take a minute to replace. This ensures that the rovers work almost continuously.

The new robots are also equipped with improved sensors, LED headlights and have softer high suspension. Thanks to this, they can more easily overcome obstacles such as high curbs.
