Yield of apple orchards in Russia increased by 1.3 times

Russian gardeners harvested more than 1.2 million tons of apples this year, which is 1.3 times more than last year. At the same time, fruit harvesting is still going on, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture said.

"The most favorable areas for industrial apple production are traditionally the South, North Caucasus and Central Russia. In addition to the organized sector, large private subsidiary farms - primarily in the North Caucasus republics - account for significant volumes of cultivation," the ministry said.

Now gardeners can use the "incentive subsidy" to support the establishment and maintenance of perennial trees, such as the purchase of planting material, fertilizers, trellis structures or anti-hail netting for intensive orchards. The largest coefficients are set when calculating the rates for the establishment of super-intensive orchards (at least three) and for the establishment of fruit nurseries and nursery plantations (at least three and at least four, respectively).

The agency said that over five years the government support allowed to significantly increase the area of orchards and nearly doubled the commercial production of fruit and berry products.
