The volume of reindeer meat harvested in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District increased sixfold over two years
In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (YNAO) private reindeer breeders delivered 482 tons of meat in 2021. This is more than six times higher than two years ago, said Lyubov Ohman, deputy director of the district department of agroindustrial complex.
"The main volume of procurement is traditionally accounted for by agricultural organizations - they provided more than 739 tons of venison. For the second year in a row, there is a significant increase in the volume of harvest from the private sector - 482 tons, while in 2019, reindeer herders-private entrepreneurs delivered 78 tons of meat," she said.
Ohman explained that the positive dynamics was achieved thanks to regional measures to support reindeer herders, which were introduced in 2020.
