Mastercard has reduced tariffs when paying with cards on Ozon and Wildberries

The Mastercard international payment system, following Visa, has reduced fees when paying with cards on major marketplaces, including Ozon, Wildberries, AliExpress and others, RBC has learned.

From January 31, 2022, the size of the interbank commission (interchain) will be 1.48% or 1.28% of the value of the goods, depending on the volume of online sales. Mastercard explained that they had updated the interbank commission program without giving details. In their letter to the acquiring banks, Mastercard also did not specify what turnover of goods the online store should have so that it could take advantage of reduced commissions.

Background

Earlier, a dispute arose between the Russian Wildberries marketplace and Visa and Mastercard payment systems. Then Wildberries began to display the commission amount when paying with cards of international payment systems, and then announced that when paying for purchases with Mir cards, through the Quick Payment System or SberPay, buyers will be able to save 2% of the cost of goods.

Visa and Mastercard saw in this decision the introduction of new fees for their customers, accusing the company of violating the rules. The dispute was later settled. Visa has decided to reduce the fees for accepting cards for large marketplaces. They will be effective from February 1, 2022.
