The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation has announced the start of the development of the concept of a new film award - the "Eurasian Oscar", RNS writes with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

"Currently, the Ministry of Culture of Russia together with other interested departments and organizations is working on the creation of the Eurasian Film Academy in the framework of BRICS", - said the Ministry of Culture. The terms of the project and the possibility of its funding have not yet been voiced.

Earlier, Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov proposed the creation of an "alternative Oscar" - "Eurasian Oscar" in Russia. "It is not necessary to chase after the "Oscar", but in terms of influence in that space - in the Eurasian, BRICS countries - it should be not just an alternative and counterweight, but a certain kind of "push foot" for the development of cinematography, for communication," said Mikhalkov.
