The United Engine Corporation (UEC) (related to Rostec) has successfully completed the program of bench tests of the first prototype engine PD-8. It will be used on the SSJ-New passenger aircraft and the Be-200 amphibian aircraft, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

"The new domestic aircraft engine was created using the latest Russian materials and advanced technologies, including 3D printing. The work involves a wide cooperation of UEC enterprises," the report said.

During the multi-stage tests, ODK specialists performed debugging of automatic control systems and stabilized the launch of the model. Tests confirmed the performance of the engine and its systems, the basic parameters laid down in the terms of reference, and the correctness of design solutions.

Rostec's first deputy director Vladimir Artyakov called the completion of bench tests of the first prototype PD-8 the most important stage in the development of a new Russian engine for civil aviation, primarily for the import-substituted SuperJet-100.

"Further tests of individual engine units on autonomous units are forthcoming. Also planned tests of the engine as part of the flying laboratory IL-76LL and a large complex of engineering calculations. All this is part of the work package to confirm the prototype unit's characteristics to the requirements of the certification basis of the PD-8 engine," he concluded.
