Russia is compensating for the decline in coal exports to Europe due to increased purchases by the countries of the Asia-Pacific region (APR), the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky said.

He noted that Russian minerals will be in demand in the Asia-Pacific countries even in the context of an active environmental policy. According to him, Japan and South Korea, which do not produce coal themselves, maintain its share in their fuel balances at 26-29% through imports.

Yanovskiy added that the availability of energy resources for the so-called "developing" countries, whose share in world coal consumption is above 80%, is a priority. The demand for energy resources in such countries is often determined by the growth rates of economies and, after that, by the processes that are associated with environmental protection, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
