Peter Romanishin: how sanctions have affected Russian winemaking

Under the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions, domestic wine producers are forced to look for new markets for their products. Despite this, external restrictions had practically no effect on the production itself. This was stated in an interview with the editorial board of "Made in Russia" by the general director of the winery "Fanagoria" Peter Romanishin.Fanagoria is a full–cycle enterprise and all drinks are made from grapes grown in its own vineyards on the Taman Peninsula.

We have no problems with the equipment. We have created more than a year's supply of components necessary for the manufacture of products. In addition, of course, we are looking for alternative suppliers," Romanishin said.According to him, the winery has already agreed with a plastic cork manufacturer in one of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Their products "Fanagoria" will be purchased for wines that are consumed in the first year after manufacture.

The technological process has not changed under the sanctions either. Moreover, one of the largest wineries in Russia, Fanagoria, plans to produce more than 2 million dal of products this year, including more than 1.5 million quiet and more than 300 thousand dal sparkling wines, as well as about 150 thousand dal cognacs and grape vodka (chacha).

"Due to the fact that the Fanagoria Group of companies is a full–cycle enterprise and all drinks are made from grapes grown in their own vineyards on the Taman Peninsula, in 2022 the volume of production of wines, cognacs and grape vodka (chacha) will remain at the same level as in previous years," Romanishin stressed. He also added that due to external restrictions, the cost of products increased from 1% to 10%.
