Poor brand recognition limits the export of Russian furniture

28

Favorable economic conditions for Russian companies that have developed due to the devaluation of the ruble, allowed Russian furniture manufacturers to occupy 60% of the domestic market by the end of 2016.

At the beginning of 2017 the growth should be also facilitated by restrictions in the sphere of state purchases of furniture, planned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to reduce the volume of foreign manufacturers' production in the state order.

Alexander Shestakov, President of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, believes that the guaranteed demand for products from the state will allow Russian companies to load up production and improve the competitive environment. With the volume of the Russian furniture market at 140 billion rubles, purchases under the state order may amount to about 34 billion rubles.

In 2015, Russian manufacturers began exporting their products for the first time since the Soviet Union, but further growth in supplies is constrained by low recognition of Russian brands.
