"Ushakov Shipyards launched their first ever floating house

Environmentally friendly floating houseboat "Brandenburg" was launched in Kaliningrad. It was built by the company Ushakov Shipyards, for which the creation of such a houseboat was the first in the period of the company's existence.

The new transport runs on electricity and is capable of travelling all year round on water, and can also be used for long trawl trips even in difficult navigational conditions.

According to Viktor Lider, the General Director of Ushakov shipyards, the distinctive feature of this floating house is its eco-friendliness. For instance, the vessel is powered by two electric engines, and the houseboat itself houses a battery farm, two dozen solar panels and a heat pump.

Natural materials including oils and waxes were used in the finishing of the hausbot. Even a zero-emission laminate was used to furnish the cabin, he said.

The CEO expressed confidence that the new houseboat has export potential and will be in demand outside our country.

The houseboat was named "Brandenburg" after the land in Germany where the company owner lives.

Since March of this year "Ushakov shipyards" has become a resident of the Kaliningrad special economic zone with a project on creation of a site for construction of vessels based on alternative energy sources. Investments in the project in the first three years exceeded 50 mln rubles. As stated by the Governor of the region Anton Alikhanov, such a project may become part of the shipbuilding cluster in the Kaliningrad region in the future.

Besides, the company now creates an eco-vessel for Baltic Spit, which will transport people and cars. The cost of the ferry is presently estimated at almost RUR 400 mln.
