Novolipetsk Steel received three new diesel locomotives

Sinara-Transport Machines (STM) Holding has produced three TEM9 diesel locomotives for Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK). Deliveries took place in the current month.

It should be noted that the plant started purchasing such locomotives two years ago and currently the customer's fleet consists of 17 such locomotives.

The purchase of the locomotives is made within the framework of the programme for the locomotive fleet renewal at NLMK, which is planned to be completed within two years. Currently, the programme is scheduled to be implemented by 2022. The enterprise currently uses 120 diesel locomotives.

The purchased diesel locomotives are used for shunting and hauling operations. Due to the fact that they can enter the turning radius of up to 50 meters such locomotives are suitable for any activities at the whole plant. On average, TEM9 consumes one third less fuel than their counterparts.

In addition, they last much longer - up to 40 years - and require less maintenance.

The machines are considered more environmentally friendly due to the fact that they are designed in such a way that no lubricants get on the railway.

According to Anton Zubikhin, head of STM Trading House, the company will deliver another nine TEM9s to the combine by the end of this year, and in the future the parties will cooperate in implementing the railway infrastructure maintenance program, which will be based on digital engineering solutions.
