The Government of the Russian Federation will approve financing of the state programme for involving agricultural land into turnover and development of land reclamation complex by 24 August this year.

Three ministries - agriculture, finance and economic development - will be involved in this development.

Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture believes that after 10 years, at certain efforts it will be possible to involve additionally about 12 million hectares in the turnover.

According to the head of the Government, land reclamation should be carried out at the same time. However, without government participation in this process for farmers such a task will be impossible. In this regard, such measures need to be implemented on a systematic and regular basis, and reflected in the state program.

In our country, the program on involving in turnover of agricultural land will start in 2021 and will be completed in 2030. Nearly 888 billion roubles will be spent on this, and the state programme will spend about 1.41 trillion roubles on activities. So, next year alone the federal budget allocates more than 100 billion rubles for this state program.

The program is expected to increase the reclaimed land in the country by 1.6 million hectares. For example, in 2018, this figure was just over 96 thousand hectares. In 10 years, thanks to irrigation, crop production can grow by 145%. At the same time, the degree of depreciation of fixed assets of reclamation complex in state ownership will not exceed 49.9%, while now this figure reaches 78%. Nearly 830,000 hectares will be preserved as fertile and protected against erosion and waterlogging.
