Tambov Region authorities forecast a record high grain harvest of up to 5 million tonnes this year.

As of now, the region has harvested over 80% of the area of grain, from which more than 4 million tonnes have already been harvested, with yields of less than 45 centners per hectare. This means that by the results of gathering from all areas the volume of harvest can reach 4.5-5 million tons, said the acting head of the regional department of agriculture Lidia Bakumenko.

She recalled that last year, during the same period, the harvest was only 2.6 million tons with the yield of 29 centners. At present the record is the harvest of three years ago, which was 4.1 million tons.

The government explained that all major grain crops yielded more. According to the authorities, this is due to the use of modern technologies and uninterrupted work during the quarantine. In addition, favorable agricultural climatic conditions contributed to such results.

The Federal Centre for Quality and Safety Assessment of Grain and Grain Products noted the good quality of grain in the region this year. According to their information, it meets all the requirements in terms of protein and gluten.

At the moment agrarians are completing harvesting of winter wheat, barley, rye and oats, and at the same time continue to gather buckwheat, millet and lupine. Already threshed most (72%) of the spring cereals. According to the plans, harvesting of corn will start in September.
