"Development Center". The Higher School of Economics has announced a decline in the purchasing power of Russians

Food products from the main list have become less affordable for Russian residents, the relevant conclusions were made by the Development Center Higher School of Economics.

Thus, according to its data, purchasing power has dropped to a 10-year low. For example, in the second quarter of 2020, many Russians could not afford to buy 12 of the 24 basic foods, namely: white and rye bread, beef, fish, rice, apples, milk, butter, black tea and other foods.

Experts came to these conclusions based on the dynamics of money incomes of the country's citizens and consumer prices. In the second quarter the average per capita income was slightly over Br32 thousand, while the subsistence level during this period was about Br11.5 thousand. Their ratio reached the lowest value since 2011 - 286.5%.

Analysts believe that such an economic crisis is related to the coronavirus pandemic, as it was at this time that income in Russian families decreased by 8% compared to last year's figures for the same period.

In 2018, Rosstat conducted a study that showed that over a third of the family budget Russian residents spend on food. Along with this, there are fewer families who have enough money to buy exactly the food they prefer. Their number dropped from 52.3% in 2013 to 51.7% in 2018.
