The professional community has complained about the falling profitability of poultry farming in Russia

The Russian Poultry Union has sent a letter to Dmitry Patrushev, the head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, pointing to the rising cost of feed and the fall in the profitability of Russian poultry farming to 5-7%.

The letter is also addressed to Elena Kovaleva, head of the Department of Natural Resources, Land Relations and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Russian Government.

The authors of the letter state that the situation in the poultry farming is caused by rise in prices for fodder due to grain supplies outside the country. The activity of exporters in the first half of the current year resulted in the fact that feed wheat grew in price by 20-24%, corn - by 35-40%, sunflower - up to 59%.

Since fodder accounts for 70% in the structure of chicken production costs, its cost increased by 15% during this period, the letter says.

At the same time the prices for the poultry in the first half of the year went down by 6, at the same time due to the weakened purchasing power of citizens it is not possible to raise the prices for this product.

The Union leadership will ask the Russian authorities to further regulate the grain market in order to provide cattle breeding with fodder, preserving its profitability. The letter also contains the proposal to subsidize meat producers for purchasing of grain for fodder.
