Innopraktika conducted a survey of innovation practices in large Russian companies.

The results indicate that not all corporate tools for working with innovations take root equally well in domestic companies. At the same time, the lag in their adoption compared to international corporations may diminish, the stage of experimentation with them should be replaced by the construction of full-fledged innovative ecological systems.

The study was commissioned by Russian Railways and supported by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

The specialists faced the task of analyzing the practices of innovation activities in large companies in the country, comparing them with the successful foreign experience and identifying opportunities to increase the effectiveness of innovative development tools.

The analysis was based on interviews with representatives of the twenty largest corporations, including Rosatom, Aeroflot, Sberbank and others.

Thus, the study revealed that companies are actively experimenting with different tools for working with innovations.

For example, there is a peak of interest in corporate accelerators and digital transformation programs. At the same time there are few operating corporate venture capital funds, the potential of spin-offs and technology partnerships is underused, and corporate entrepreneurship remains underdeveloped.

According to the researchers, big business in the country lacks ambitious technological objectives that could force innovative development and attention of the owners, including the state, to the formation of long-term competitive advantages, which are based on new technologies.

Natalia Popova, First Deputy General Director of Innopraktika, said that during the research it became clear that the best thing we do is to borrow what can be built on the basis of codified knowledge. I am talking about the elements of innovation infrastructure, procedures and managerial schemes.
