Russia unveiled the first robot for metal processing

Vladimir-based developer and manufacturer of industrial laser complexes ThermoLaser presented a mobile robotic complex based on a diode laser, which is designed, inter alia, for surfacing with powder of its own production.

The presentation took place during the international exhibition Metalloobrabotka-2019.

The mobile complex includes a robotic arm and a diode laser of 3-5 kW capacity. The design of the equipment uses special laser modules, thanks to which it is possible to carry out thermal hardening, welding and laser cladding with special powders. If necessary, the complex can be equipped with additional sensors, cameras, scanners and controllers.

It should be noted that laser hardening is one of the most advanced methods of steel hardening. Such method increases wear resistance of parts without melting the surface and violating the geometry. Before such works were carried out only in stationary conditions.

Now, with the new mobile plant it is possible to process large parts which are difficult or even impossible to transport, such as turbines for power plants and components of ship hulls.

The laser hardening is done in two stages. First, during the heat treatment, the laser beam heats the outer layers of the workpiece and then it rapidly cools it down. That makes it possible to harden the martensitic structure.

Rostec companies are already using the technology for processing parts in the military-industrial complex, oilfield services and mechanical engineering.
