Own standard of tea production will appear in Russia

A new standard "Krasnodar tea" may appear in Russia in the coming spring.

Now, according to media reports, the standard is being edited by the All-Russian Research Institute of Certification, after which it will be sent to Rosstandart.

If the standard is adopted, tea will be divided into four categories. Thus, 100% tea leaves, which are grown in Krasnodar tea, will be in the "bouquet". The second type - "extra" - implies at least three quarters of this tea, in the highest grade - from 60% and from 40% in the first grade.

Experts believe that the adoption of the tea standard will reduce the share of counterfeit tea to 10%. At the same time it will make Russian tea more competitive in the domestic market as right now, despite the high quality of Krasnodar tea, 96.7% of the drink in the country is imported.

It is worth noting that this year, for example, the company "Matsestinsky Tea" started to export its products outside Russia and has already sent the first batch to Serbia. Swedish importers also expressed their interest in this Russian tea.

Now tea is grown on 360 hectares in Kuban. This year they harvested about 350 tons of tea, which is 50 tons higher than last year.

Now the Krasnodar region is engaged in restoration of tea plantations. For example, the region adopted a program which envisages restoration of more than 450 hectares within five years.
