The government has developed support measures that will allow regions to create a significant base for the development of such technologies in any subject of the Russian Federation within the Artificial Intelligence project and will affect the formation of large high-tech businesses in the future, said Deputy Minister of Economic Development Oksana Tarasenko.

The federal project consists of eight support tools which, from 2021, may be used by the regions. For example, regional start-ups will be able to make use of grants from the Foundation for Assistance to Innovations.

They will also be able to take part in competitions for the creation of research centres or the development of open libraries used in the technologies of artificial intelligence.

Tarasenko noted that the government is now developing a road map for transforming the business climate in the direction of artificial intelligence. A working group of specialists, including representatives of the commercial sector, is being formed for that purpose.

She said that they plan to focus initially on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare and transport.
